BBC iPlayer and the Mac

So, yes, it does kill your router, most usually after 5 and a bit minutes. BT know about it. (The Home Hub is the same horrible router branded by lots of people, including Be. It's an Alcatel Speedtouch, I think. Awful. Avoid.

it is happening again

Tiny post: the new 3G iPhones don't include a stand, which you're really going to want. (They did the same box-stripping with the 2G iPods as well)

continential philosophy

it’s often suggested that Quine must have been wrong because conceptual analysis is what analytic philosophers do, and there must be something that they’re doing when they do it. That put a brave face on it, but there were guilty consciences wherever you looked.Jerry Fodor

In 2003 the total size of the world economy was $49,000,000,000,000. The total size of the derivatives being traded was $85,000,000,000,000. In other words, derivatives today are worth far, far more than the total economic activity of the planet. More than $1,000,000,000,000 of derivatives are bought and sold every day. Cityphilia

(A completely unfair comparison, but catchiness counts)

1000 sorrows in your pocket

Unveiling the new iPods -- none of which are white! -- calls for Moscone, KT Tunstall, an hour and half of Jobs huckling, and three expensive new ads. All it takes to shove out a new iMac is a Cupertino closet, 10 minutes of chat and an ad that looks like it was made with iMovie. Bleh.
